Catholic Students Movement (CSM)
Catholic Student Movement was started in 1989 in different colleges in Kerala. In 1993 CSM was officially declared by KCBC as the only approved catholic student organization in the catholic colleges of Kerala. All students who are desirous of integral personality development can take membership in this organization. To realize this objective CSM has three dimensional activities, ie spiritual, intellectual and cultural.
Catholic student’s movement is a youth organisation which aims at the integral growth of college students and propagation of Christian ideology through personality development programmes and spiritual training. It takes up social welfare activities and animation programmes intended for the leadership development in students.
Life Guidance programmes: Every year the spiritual animation program is conducted for juniors and seniors of Christians and non-Christians separately. A two day life guidance program for the teachers also is conducting simultaneously. In October the ten day rosary devotion is conducted in the college church under the guidance C.S.M.There is a rosary procession through the college premises on the concluding day. Every first Friday Holy mass is offered in the college church. Regular prayer meeting is conducted on every Thursday in the college chapel or in the audio visual hall.
Leadership Training programmes : The organization conducts spiritual leadership training programmes for the students of this college and other colleges. This year they conducted an inter collegiate programme called “Rejoice 2011”.106 students from various colleges participated in the programme Also the unit represents in various workshops, seminars and leadership programmes organised by other institutions. The members participate in several spiritual programmes like campus conference, South Asian conference, campus warriors etc conducted by the Jesus youth movement. About28 volunteers participated in the Jesus youth international jubilee conference held at Cochin in December2010.
Social Welfare activities: The C.S.M. volunteers fast on Fridays collect lunch packets and money offered by students and distribute among the inmates of various orphanages, old age homes etc. Every Friday about80-100 food packets are obtained along with an amount of more than thousand rupees. Also they visit these orphanages once in a while and celebrate Onam and Christmas with them At Christmas they cut cakes with the inmates and entertain them with carol songs and other cultural programmes.The students buy provisions and dress materials for the inmates of the orphanages with the money they collected. Also they help the poor students by giving the money in their needs.
Every year C.S.M. volunteers set up a stall in the annual college exhibition with help of Jesus youth. The stalls project the Gospel values and render a positive conviction against social evils like abortion alcoholism, drug addiction etc.
The Nirmala Day (patron saint’s day) and Christmas are celebrated in the college under the leadership C.S.M.On Nirmala Day there is Holy mass in the chapel followed by cultural programmes in the auditorium followed by distribution of sweets. During Christmas they build crib and conduct carol song competitions.
Dr. John Vallamattam debate is a prestigious inter collegiate competition conducted by C.S.M.10-12 colleges are attending and cash prizes are given to the winners. Sometimes they publish manuscripts also. Student representatives are selected in the beginning of the year and all programmes are organized by the student leaders and the teacher coordinators.
