Department of Statistics

Department Statistics is able to collaborate with Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (Rajeev Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology), Thiruvanthapuram. Presently research is concentrated in finger print analysis of an indigenous variety of rice -Njavara. Department developed MATLAB routines to analysis morphological as well as Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism data (AFLP). Advanced Multivarivate techniques like Hierarchical Cluster Analysis, Principal Component Analysis and Discriminat Analysis are used in the study. The descriminat function suggested by the department is accurate above 92%. Some research articles are also communicated to reputed journals from this work. Dr.George Thomas, Mr. N. Sreejayan (Scientists, RGCB) and Dr.T.M.Jacob (Nirmala College) are coordinating the research work.

Training Program in Research Methodology : Department of Statistics is offering customized training in Mathematical and Statistical methods to suit the needs of researchers in various disciplines. The department helped the Kudumba Sree, the poverty eradication program of Govt. of Kerala in developing an economic model for the income generating activity of their members. Counselors from Good Will Counseling Centre, Thodupuzha availed training in the application of Statistics in Psychology. Department trained the faculty members of Rai University, Cochin Campus in advanced level Matlab programming.
This year more than 25 researchers availed the expertise of Statistics department in solving their research problems.

The Dept. of Zoology:

The Dept. of Zoology is collaborating with Limnological Association of Kerala (LAK) and with Prof. Y. Renga Reddy, Dept. of Zoology, Nagarjuna University, Andhrapadesh, to study fresh water planktons of a few rivers in Kerala.
