Welcome to the Department of Botany
The department was established in the year 1954. Prof. Joseph Scaria was the first faculty. In 1957 three year B.Sc. Degree course started and Prof. K A Mathew was appointed as the first HO D. In 1983 the department flourished with seven faculty members. Now it has four faculty members.In 1959 Prof. K. V. Joseph took charge as the next H. O. D. The rich traditions and stongly knitted academic fabric laid down by Prof. K.V. Joseph was nurtured by his successors, professors Joseph T. Puthenpura, K.K. Paul, Philomina A. vadakkel and Biniamma Abraham. At present the department has a strong faculty headed by Prof. Ansy P.S. The department offers Bachelor of Science in Botany, with Phytochemistry and Pharmacognosy as elective and Agribased Microenterprises as open course. CBCSS was introduced in the year 2009-10 on wards.
