About the Department

             Nirmala College Muvattupuzha is a first grade college which has completed 59 years of glorious service. The college is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. The Statistics department started functioning by bifurcating from the Department of Mathematics in 1984 with the introduction of M.Sc. Statistics course. Prof.(Late) P.C.Tharu was the first head of the department.  Ever since its inception, the department has always kept high standard in academic and co-curricular activities. The department has been clocking steady and meaningful progress thereafter. The department has faculty strength of 7 members with 4 Ph. D’sand 4 M.Phil holders. The department is an approved research centre in Statistics in the M.G.University from 2009 December onwards.Our students brought laurels to the institution by achieving good academic results and placements in various fields.

      Realizing the needs of skilled statistician and umpteen job opportunities for students, the department extends its service in data analysis using statistical packages. Advanced level training in C / C++ and Minitab is giving to the students to get more exposure in their career. Special training in SAS program is also giving to students.   

The department celebrated the silver jubilee on 2009-10.  A number of academic programmes were organized in connection with the silver jubilee. The celebrations started with a three day U.G.C Sponsored seminar on 24-26 Feb 2009. Several resource persons including experts from ISI participated in the seminar.

A mega alumni meet was conducted in connection with the jubileecelebrations.

Three day workshop on Minitab was organized on Feb 11-13,  2010 as part of Silver Jubilee celebrations. 

A number of invited talks by eminent Professors were organized duringthis period. The celebrations concluded with a three day U.G.C. sponsored seminar along with the annual conference of the Kerala Statistical Association.

   Valedictory function of the silver  jubilee was organized as a Thanks Giving day.

A series of five lectures were organized by the department during the academic year on emerging areas of Statistics. 

The department conducted two day computer training program  for house wives for  Computer  and internet Awareness.

Spoken English and Language Lab Training were given to M.Sc. Students by the dept. of Communicative English. 

 

Final year M. Sc. Statistics students underwent internship in Krithyam Solutions, Cochin and Rajagiri School of Management, Cochin during November 2011 under the initiative of the department.

Campus selection by Krythium Solutions Private Limited, Cochin

Department trained the faculty members of the college in MATLAB during  2010-2011.
